Hi Jack,
Life gave me a couple of years ago at Concha y Toro and other Chilean wineries. They have a Carmenere called "icon" (according to this, than 'premium'), the Peumo Carmin. The wine is not a 'fruit bomb'. It's a 'thermonuclear fruit bomb'. Not my style, but I understand it is very seductive to many consumers and gurus.
Carmin Peumo being a wine of pure Carmenere, I see it as a direct competitor to the critical favorite U.S.: Clos Apalta, the only wine 'icon' Chilean or so loaded to the Carmenere. All other established icon are mixtures dominated by cabernet. But the rarity (or jelly, rather) of Montes Folly, 100% Syrah.
Finally, there is a market for all. I still think the best wine of Concha y Toro Don Melchor Cabernet from Puente Alto, Maipo. This time in the cellar aniadas tested the 95 and 97. If Peumo carmenere Cachapoal age as well as review the opinion.
Regards, D.
Hi Daniel!
I agree, lately some Chilean houses have chosen to please the style "parkeriano" fruit bombs to ever more powerful, and that's not my style, but neither is the "oak monsters" (from Gary V.).
I personally think that Marquis is well balanced between fruit and wood, perhaps my palate is not as thin and numb with the "icons", but will have to try them first.
Greetings and thanks x comment!
What do you think, have tried the Marques de Casa Concha Carmenere? Peumo be the best region for this grape? comment.
